Excavation - Example Project

The most recent full scale excavation JB Archaeology Ltd has undertaken was the clearing of a 300m² area of an historic graveyard for the construction of a new heritage centre at Fewston, North Yorkshire. This involved the full excavation and recording of 165 sets of human remains, many with the remains of coffins. Once the area had been cleared it was handed over to the contractors for the construction phase and an occasional watching brief was maintained on an ‘as and when’ basis which recorded and recovered a further five skeletons. A programme of post-excavation specialist analysis and reporting was then developed which allowed for the production of a report on the results of the excavation.
